Great Egret (Casmerodius albus)

Great Egret found all over the world. This bird also known as great white heron,Great White Egret, Large Egret, Great American Egret, Great White Heron etc. It has as long as 165 to 215 cm wingspan with up to 1 kg weigh when matured. The yellow bill and black foot distinguished great egret from it's other family members. All coastal regions support this eminent birds and marsh, mangrove, protected areas as well. Breeds in colonies with other herons. Small fish, insects, crabs, amphibians are their main food. Though great egret is one of the very common birds, nowadays they are facing some threats like wetland degradation, agricultural development, pesticides, DDT etc causing declining their number.
