MAY 04 2010 !!! We reached Kalenga Forest bungalow by 9.30am... There were few black squirrel running on trees... It was great opportunity to watch wild animals activities from the front-yard of bunglow...Large natural populations of black squirrels can be found throughout Sylhet, Gazipur, Chittagong and Sundarban. Black squirrels (S. carolinensis) are grey squirrels with high levels of the black pigment melanin in their hair (melanic). (Source: www.forestry.gov.uk)...
Squirrel breed during Mid-December to Mid-January and June at the first year of their age, and gestation period usually 42-45 days... "During the breeding season, noisy mating chases take place when one or more males pursue a female through the trees". (Source: www.extension.org/pages/Tree_Squirrels)... That's what actually happened in front of us. There was three, two males after one female squirrel.
